Origami Gold was a wonderful quilt to make as I knew it would be gifted to a very special women.
This quilt will help bridge the gap of knowledge between people outside of the Indigenous community and people within the Indigenous community.
It was my honour to be invited to Council Fire for the MMIWGT2S Blanket Ceremony. (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit)
I have learned through this experience and have become more aware of the challenges facing Indigenous women, children and communities.
The colours I have chosen for this quilt all hold special meaning within the Indigenous community. The blue represents tranquility, love, loyalty and trust.
The turquoise represents spiritual healing and protection and the gold represents wealth and prosperity.
